In a positive step of the Parliamentary Labor and Social Affairs Committee, an article was included in the Social Security Law, in which local and foreign private sector companies are obliged to employ the local workforce for them with Imposing financial fines on them in the event of non-compliance with that, as well as the aforementioned committee is currently making many amendments to the Social Security Law, most notably ensuring the rights of workers in private companies and factories, as well as reducing the percentage of foreign labor in Iraq within another paragraph by increasing the imposition of financial fines on local and foreign companies in order to commit to the employment of local workforce for them.

These measures by the Parliamentary labor Committee are a victory for NIHR’s efforts in the past period aimed at increasing the percentage of local workforce of young people in local and foreign investment companies and ensure their rights stipulated in the Iraqi constitution through its repeated calls and leadership of campaigns to gain support by some members of the Iraqi parliament and other actors, and today our organization calls the committee to take more measures that contribute to increasing the local workforce and contribute to reducing the unemployment rate among young people.
